Benjamin Geza Affleck-Boldt was born in Berkeley. His family moved to Massachusetts when he was three, first to Falmouth, where his brother Casey was born, then to Cambridge.
After graduating from Harvard, his mother, Christopher Anne “Chirs” Boldt, taught elementary school, while his father, Timothy Byers Affleck, wanted to be a writer but was unemployed. Timothy was a Harvard carpenter, auto mechanic, bookie, electrician, bartender, and janitor.
The Theatre Company of Boston employed him as an actor and stage manager in the 1960s. Affleck’s father’s drinking affected the family during his boyhood. The actor says his father drinks too much during the day. At 11, he was relieved when his parents split and his father left the family home due to his difficult conduct.
