Lowenthal is married to his loving wife actress Tara Platt in 2001 in Las Vegas. He met Tara on an NYU grad film where they played opposite each other in a romantic comedy film called Model Chaser. He later helped Tara do a cross-country move to Los Angeles so that Platt could participate in auditions there for new TV shows in their six months relationship. Further, midway through the trip he proposed to her in Bowling Green. In 2004, they founded a company called Monkey Kingdom Productions. In 2016, they welcomed their son Sagan Carter Lowenthal.
