Brooklyn Nets and Long Island Nets (2016–2017)

Ferrell was undrafted in the 2016 NBA draft after multiple trials. He then signed as a free agent with the Brooklyn Nets for the 2016 NBA Summer League.

In 17 minutes a game, he averaged 8.8 points, 1.8 assists, and 1.5 rebounds in four games for the team. On October 21, 2016, the Nets waived him after he appeared in three preseason games.

Later, he became an affiliate player for the NBA Development League’s Long Island Nets in Brooklyn. He later returned to Brooklyn and was given the opportunity to play in the NBA.

On November 9, he made his NBA debut, scoring five points, three assists, one rebound, and one steal in 14 minutes against the New York Knicks.

During these years, there was a fair amount of back and forth between these two squads.

Dallas Mavericks (2017–2018)

On January 28, 2017, Ferrel signed a 10-day deal with the Dallas Mavericks. Later, he and his teammates set new career highs in points by defeating the San Antonio Spurs, Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Portland Trail Blazers.

He joined Connie Hawkins and Anthony Morrow as the third and first undrafted rookies in NBA history to record a 30-point game in their first 15 games.

Following these victories, his doors to Dallas were opened, and he signed a multi-year contract with the team. For games played in February, Ferrell was named Western Conference Rookie of the Month. In addition, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team.

He guided the Miami Heat, Charlotte Hornets, and Denver Nuggets to victories.

Ferrell allegedly received a qualifying offer of a two-year contract worth $5.3 million on July 19, 2018, according to rumors. However, the next day, he backed out of the deal.

Sacramento Kings (2018–present)

Ferrel signed a two-year contract with the Sacramento Kings for $3,000,000 in the 2018-19 season, which was then extended for $3,150,000 in the 2019-20 season.

The Network put Ferrel in the top 16 for accomplishments from 2010 to 2019, and he was surprised by the accolade.

“Man, that’s a great honor,” Ferrell said at the time. I was completely unaware that they were voting for that. It’s an honor to be a part of that.”

Ferrell signed a 10-day deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers on January 11, 2021, and a new one with the Clippers on April 19. He also played for the Salt Lake City Stars as a guard that year.
