Mario Trinchero, the young Italian immigrant who started the wine empire, had a grandson named Carlo Trinchero, who is the son of Roger Trinchero.
To reopen the Sutter Home winery, which had lain dormant since the Prohibition era, and to provide a better living for his wife Mary and their three children, Roger, Bob, and Vera, Mario moved the family from New York to Napa Valley in 1948.
With the introduction of White Zinfandel, a sweeter and lighter wine that sells around 4.5 million cases annually, Sutter Home rose to fame beginning in the middle of the 1970s.
The third generation of Trinchero leadership is made up of Mario Trinchero, Bobby Torres, Tony Torres, and Carlo Trinchero.

Carlo first had his doubts about the wine industry. He became a physical trainer after attending Sacramento University to study kinesiology. But tours and tastings at wineries let him understand that he was carrying on the family tradition.
