The parents of Jordan Stolz are from the working class. Like any other middle-class parent, they merely want to see their children flourish and realize their dreams. Jane Stolz, Jordan’s mother, works as a dental hygienist. In a similar vein, Dirk Stolz, his father, works in law enforcement. Jordan has always fostered his passion for skating, which he has had since he was five years old.
Hannah Stolz, a daughter of Jane and Dirk, is a year older than him. Hannah has a similar obsession with skating to him. Her parents claim that she picked up skating more quickly than Jordan Stolz did.
Hannah was skating like a pro while Jordan was griping about how slippery the ice was. Dirk bought a pair of inline skates for young Jordan at a rummage sale and spent hours skating laps in the driveway.
Additionally, out of fear of mishaps, Dirk placed exterior lights in the pool against his wife’s wishes. Jordan’s costs for speedskating are largely covered by Jane and her husband Dirk’s taxidermy business.
Jordan’s appetite is increasing, so the family makes an annual trip to Alaska to fish for halibut and salmon, go moose hunting, and haul the catch back to Wisconsin. A deer and elk farm used to belong to the family as well.
Jordan Stolz’s parents have even altered their routines and taken up other jobs to support him professionally. Jan supports himself while going to school by working a part-time job. Dirk also began working the third shift to keep transporting Jordan to practice every day. They believe that for things to function, family members and parents must be prepared to make sacrifices like those made by athletes.
