As the audience witnessed such violence at the game, they were eager to talk to the two players and were curious to know the reason why.
However, both James and Stewart were not present during commentary after the game.
Anthony Davis of the Lakers thanked Pistons' security for protecting the players, “Everybody did a great job trying to de-escalate the situation. You never want it to get to that point like 17 years ago.”
Although it was an unusual experience for the audience, it was the second time James was caught up in a fight at a game.
During the post-game interview, Detroit coach Dwane Casey explained the situation quoting the two players to have been "caught up in the heat of the moment."
“I don’t think James is a dirty player, but Stew cut his eye,” said Casey. “He felt like he had been cheap-shotted across the brow. I’m not even sure he knew who hit him.”
