Vivian Howard is a well-known American chef, restaurateur, author, and television host who from 2013 through 2018 served as a host of the PBS television series A Chef’s Life covering the ingredients and cooking traditions of eastern North Carolina — using the backdrop of the Chef & the Farmer restaurant in Kinston, North Carolina, which she co-owns with her spouse and business partner, artist Ben Knight. She was the first woman in 2014 since Julia Child to win a Peabody Award due to the cooking program. She also authored the cookbook memoir Deep Run Roots in 2017.
