In Ocala, Florida, on August 9, 1997, Beverly Gilbert and Ulysees Gilbert II welcomed their son, Ulysees Gilbert III. Uriah Gilbert, his younger brother, is majoring in sport management. Gilbert III played basketball and football at Trinity Catholic High School in Ocala.
He played linebacker and running back for the football team, where he was a star performer. As a senior, he made the All-State Second Team and the All-County First Team after compiling 90 tackles and 13 sacks.

Gilbert continued his education by enrolling in the University of Akron in Ohio after finishing high school. He kept on playing football with the Akron Zips, and as a freshman, he had an immediate effect. He took part in every one of the season’s 12 games and finished with 57 tackles, 3 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles.
Gilbert kept up his excellence throughout the following three years at Akron, rising to the top of the Mid-American Conference’s linebacker ranks. (MAC). In 2017 and 2018, he was awarded to the All-MAC Third Team and All-MAC Second Teams, respectively.
Gilbert was equally committed to his studies as he was to football away from the field. In 2019, he earned a criminal justice degree from Akron.
