Athlete Mathieu has been awarded a scholarship to attend Louisiana State University. During his two seasons of collegiate football (2010-2011), he won the Most Outstanding Defensive Player honor at the 2011 Cotton Bowl Classic and the Most Valuable Player award at the 2011 SEC Championship Game.

However, his nearly flawless beginning was thwarted on October 19, 2011, when he was suspended for violating LSU’s substance policy.

His tenaciousness in confronting larger opponents on the field earned him a Heisman Trophy nomination despite his 1.75-meter stature. His season concluded on December 8, 2011, when he was honored with the annual Chuck Bednarik Award from the college.

Mathieu abstained from all football activities throughout the year 2012. He declared his intention to participate in the 2013 NFL Draft and the yearly Scouting Combine on February 26, 2013.

His rating placed him as the third-most promising cornerback. In the Cardinals’ season-opening contest against the St. Louis Rams, he debuted professionally as a reserve free safety.

Week four of the 2013 season marked Mathieu’s first victory with the team; he went on to win two more contests before injuring his left ACL and LCL on December 8, 2013, which placed him on the injured reserve list and ended his inaugural season.

The Arizona Cardinals extended his contract by five years and $62.5 million on August 2, 2016. He did, nevertheless, miss the majority of the season as a result of a shoulder injury suffered against the Carolina Panthers in Week 8.

Mathieu completed the 2017 season with the Cardinals, making 16 appearances and accumulating 78 pressures, two interceptions, and two interceptions. During his five seasons with the team (2013-2017), he appeared in 66 games and accumulated 308 tackles (of which 283 were solos), 44 pass deflections, 12 interceptions, one fumble recovery, and one touchdown.

On March 14, 2018, he was dismissed by the Cardinals for refusing to accept a pay reduction. Tyrann Mathieu has appeared in four games for the Houston Texans, where he signed a one-year contract and accumulated 23 tackles and one interception.
