According to accounts, Tom Verlaine and Lizzy Mercier Descloux have been married since 1997. Together, they have two kids: son Jack was born in 2001, and daughter Molly was born in 1998. Before Tom’s passing, the family was having a good time.
The musician and poet Patti Smith apparently had had a love relationship with Verlaine. After meeting in the New York punk rock scene, they started dating. Patti and Tom worked together on numerous projects over the course of their careers. Smith posted an homage to Verlaine on Instagram for his 69th birthday: “There is no one else like Tom, who blends improvisation a la Coltrane, surf music, and Sufi-like spirituality to create a singular sound that is exemplified by his expert use of the tremolo bar on his Fender Jazz guitar.
