In the history of Swamp People, the death of Mitchell Guist stands out like a sore thumb. He starred on the show with his brother Glenn, hunting alligators in the Louisiana swamps. The reality star was also a victim of an accident. He died on May 14, 2012, at the age of 48, from natural causes.  He had fallen while aboard his boat on the Intracoastal Waterway, near Pierre Part, Louisiana. 

Mitchell fell victim to the Belle River as he slipped while loading items onto the boat. Initial reports claimed Guist had suffered from a seizure but it was later revealed that the reality star had a heart attack. Guist was pronounced dead of natural causes at the Morgan City Hospital.  His death was mourned by his family, friends, and fans of the show. The death was honored on Swamp People by airing a special episode entitled: Voodoo Bayou.
