Earlier, a Police spokesperson stated that investigators were investigating whether the shooter was one of the numerous victims discovered at the site.
According to Hamburg Police spokesman Holger Vehren, when officers arrived at the scene of the call, they discovered dead and injured people on the ground floor where an event was happening.
When the Police entered the building, they heard a shot on the top level, where they discovered a body. Police think it might have been the shooter, but a spokesperson said no more information could be released now.
Several armed Police officers could be seen inside and around the Kingdom Hall in footage from the incident as a helicopter flew overhead. At one time, a bomb-disposal team was sent out.
Police had previously issued a warning of “extreme danger” in the region, and the area’s streets have been cordoned off, the spokesperson continued.
The mayor of Hamburg, Peter Tschentscher, wrote that the reports of the incident were “shocking” and that he wanted to express his “deepest sympathies” to the families of the victims.
