On October 16, 1925, Angela Brigid Lansbury was born in Regent’s Park in London, England. Angela’s dad grew up in the upper middle class and was a politician and company owner in the wood veneering industry. Her mother was the Irish actress Moyna MacGill, who appeared in various films and productions on London’s West End.
When Lansbury was nine years old, his father passed away from stomach cancer. As a result, she turned to acting as a “escape,” using it to experiment with several identities. Lansbury has stated that the loss of her father has affected her deeply even in the present day.
During this time, Angela also learned to play the piano and became a movie buff. She subsequently enrolled in acting classes in West London and made her first theatrical appearances. When World War II broke out, Angela’s mom took the tough call to send her and her siblings away from London so they could survive the bombings.
After leaving their home in Montreal, Canada, the family relocated to New York City in the United States. While in New York, Lansbury graduated from the Feagin School of Drama and Radio with a degree in acting. Once again, she took the stage. Lansbury graduated from the theatre program in 1942.
