In 1999, Amy joined her father’s blues group, The Barn Burners. She joined Ollabelle as a founding co-member in 2001. Similar to this, Helm became a founder member of Riverside Battle Songs in 2006.

Additionally, In July 2015, Amy released Didn’t It Rain, her debut solo album, which was produced by her father. In 2011, Helm made her acting debut as Amy in the drama Higher Ground. In 2018, she issued her second album, This Too Shall Light. Additionally, in 2021 Helm released the album What the Flood Leaves Behind. Amy currently performs performances at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, the birthplace of the Midnight Ramble, year-round while on tour with her band.
