Due to a medical emergency, ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt missed the CFP national championship postgame SportsCenter on January 10, 2022.
The well-known sportscaster admitted on Twitter that his heart had somewhat gone out of whack. But after a brief medical scare, he was relieved to be safe and at home.
According to the Mayo Clinic, he made mention of supraventricular tachycardia, or SVT. It is a disorder where the upper chambers of the heart are affected by an excessively rapid heartbeat.
Van Pelt and ESPN withheld any further details regarding his condition or anticipated recovery time right away.
SportsCenter was hosted by John Anderson and Michael Eaves after Georgia defeated Alabama to win their first championship since 1980. They didn’t immediately address Van Pelt’s absence.
