The professional basketball player attended Meridian High School in Meridian, Mississippi, and was a member of the high school team.
He led the Wildcats to the Class 6A finals in 2009-10, averaging 22.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game. Hood led his team to the Class 6A title as a senior, averaging 24.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 3.1 steals, and two blocks per game.
Furthermore, he scored 27 points in a 72-43 win over Starkville in the 2010-11 season semifinals. Hood scored 24 points against Vicksburg the same season, leading Meridian to a 62-47 victory. Rivals.com rated him a five-star recruit in 2011, and his high school ranked him fifth as a small forward and 16th overall in the country.
