Years after she returned to acting in the 1990s (openly grateful to the Hong Kong film industry for welcoming her back with open arms), the Crazy Rich Asians star fell for French motor racing executive Jean Todt.
Jean Todt is the retired president of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, "the governing body for world motor sport and the federation of the world’s leading motoring organizations," as well as the former CEO of Ferrari.
The two met in Shanghai in 2004 and got engaged a year later. In 2022, Michele said they were "thinking" of tying the knot, but life seemingly got in the way.
“He counts the number of days rather than the years,” Michelle told Town & Country. “I’ll ask him, ‘What is the present for 6,725 days?’” Sweetly, she also shared with the mag that home is "wherever the people that I love are." More specifically, it's "wherever Jean is.”
In July 2023, after a 19-year engagement, Michelle and Jean finally got married. The news made the rounds after Brazilian motorsports racing driver Felipe Massa posted about the beautiful day on Instagram.
One of the photos shows a card that was on display at the wedding. It featured a lovely photo of the happy couple along with the following message:
"We met in Shanghai on 4th June 2004. On 26th July 2004, J.T proposed to marry M.Y and she said YES! Today after 6992 days on 27th July 2023 in Geneva, surrounded by loving family and friends, we are so happy to celebrate this special moment together!"
Per the Daily Mail, the reason for their getting married in Switzerland is likely because the two own a home in Geneva together and consider it their primary residence when they're not away for work.
