Before, Matthew was married to Elizabeth Goodman Logelin. The couple met at an area gas station when both were high school seniors. The pair were excited to learn they were expecting their first child, but the pregnancy was difficult, and Liz was admitted to the hospital for bed rest.
After 3 weeks of hospital bedrest, Matthew’s wife Liz gave birth to a daughter named Madeline Elizabeth Logelin born on March 24, 2008, through an emergency caesarean section. Madeline Elizabeth Logelin was born healthy although 7 weeks premature. The next afternoon, Liz died suddenly and unexpectedly of a pulmonary embolism.
