Maria has written the book titled, Once I Was You: A Memoir of Love and Hate in a Torn America(September 2020). In the book, she shares her intimate experience of growing up Mexican American on the south side of Chicago.
Furthermore, she offers an eye-opening account of how the unanswered questions around immigration have formed the attitude of Americans toward outsiders.
Apart from authoring Once I Was You, Maria has also written, Raising Raul: Adventures Raising Myself and My Son, where she narrates the highs and lows of reconciling American Motherhood with her traditional Mexican upbringing.
