Collaboration with Nike

In 2009, Kanye West collaborated with Nike and released a sneakers collection under the name The Nike Air Yeezy.

Notable that it was the first full collaboration of a shoe brand with a non-athlete.

The sneakers were released in two editions Air Yeezy in 2009 and Air Yeezy II in 2012 and 2014.

Initially, the shoes were released in three colorways- Zen Grey, Black/Pink, and Net with a price tag of $215 and sold out almost immediately.

Also, second editions were released 5000 on each colorway of Solar Red, Pure Platinum, and Red Octobers, which were sold out at $245 within seconds.

After that, West ended the collaboration with Nike.

Collaboration with Adidas

Again in 2015, Kanye collaborated with Adidas and designed and released several sneakers lines, shirts, jackets, track pants, socks, slides, women’s shoes, and slippers.

The first shoe model released was Boost 750 in February 2015.

In 2016, West and Adidas extended their collaboration and launched a new Yeezy category.

In 2019, the sales of Yeezy’s Adidas sneakers generated $1.3 billion annual revenue.

Further, in 2020, it increased to approximately $1.7 billion in annual revenue.

In 2015, Ye also released Yeezy Season 1 for apparel collection, which was a stripped-down, ready-to-wear style that drew on military clothing and flesh-toned colors.

The price for his apparel ranged from $600 for sweatpants to $3,000 for jackets, but they did not sell instantly as his shoe did, due to which Adidas pulled off the collaboration in apparel collection.

While Nike provided Kanye only some of the proceeds to a charity of West’s choice and did not pay him royalties, Adidas agreed to give him royalties.

Furthermore, Kanye also retains 100% ownership of his brand with Adidas while having full creative control over the products released.

Recently, Yeezy started a 10-year collaboration with GAP for apparel in 2020 and released its first piece on Kanye’s birthday in June, which was a bright blue round jacket priced $200.

Yeezy’s brand collaboration with Adidas and GAP is estimated worth between $3.2 billion and $4.7 billion.
