Little Rock, Arkansas, is the birthplace of the young Paralympian athlete. Jaydin returned to Michigan at the age of less than a year old to be nearer to his grandma and other family members. Blackwell’s adventure began when he and his brother received an invitation to join the Detroit, Michigan-based Motor City Track Club of the AAU. After learning that Jaydin had cerebral palsy when he was six years old, his mother began looking for ways to support her son. Jaydin learned about the Para track for the first time at this exact moment.
In the year 2021, Blackwell participated in running and soccer. This led to injuries that eventually needed several knee replacements. However, this did not deter him from going back to the field. Jaydin participated in the Para Athletics World Championships in 2023, where she won two gold medals and broke a world record. We can learn that disability can be converted into strength from Jaydin Blackwell’s story.
