He became qualified for the National Baseball Hall of Fame from 2000 to 2014 but did not earn the required 75% of the vote in any of his eligible years. Jack never earned greater than 30% of the vote from 2000 to 2003. He earned 40% of the vote for the first time in 2006. Jack earned 52.3% of the vote in 2010. He earned 67% of the vote, in 2012, and in 2013 Jack earned 67.7% of the vote. He earned 61.5% of the vote on January 8, 2014, in his last year of eligibility.
Following falling off the regular ballot, Jack was elected to the Hall by the Modern Era portion of the Veterans Committee in December 2017. In 2018, Jack became inducted alongside Alan Trammell a previous Tigers teammate. Jack’s 3.90 career ERA is the highest of any player elected to the Hall of Fame as a pitcher.
He has the lowest (regular season) plate appearances of any player in the Hall of Fame, the outcome of being the only pitcher admitted to having played all of his games under the appointed hitter rule.
