Camarón de la Isla, a legendary flamenco singer from Spain, is one of Rosala’s major influences. When she was 13 years old, she happened upon his music and was immediately captivated by his powerful voice. Rosala attributes her introduction to flamenco to Camarón de la Isla, who inspired her to explore its limitless possibilities.
La Nia de los Peines, a female flamenco singer who pioneered in a male-dominated industry, was another flamenco influence on Rosala. Rosala didn’t like her recordings at first, but she eventually came to appreciate her creative spirit and the impact she had on the flamenco world.
Rosala cites Björk as another major influence, crediting the Icelandic singer with paving the way for female producers. She has stated that she “thanks God for Björk’s existence” and admires her daring and unconventional musical approach.
Rosala is also influenced by James Blake, a British musician known for his minimalist and experimental approach to electronic music. While at university, she discovered his music and was struck by his bold personality and free structures. Rosala collaborated with Blake on “Barefoot in the Park,” a song released in 2019.
