Rochelle Paula Bersoff, the daughter of Jewish parents Edward Bersoff and Carol Bersoff-Bernstein, was born Rochelle Walensky in Peabody, Massachusetts.
She was raised in Maryland’s Potomac. In 1987, Walensky completed his high school education at Winston Churchill High School.
Washington University in St. Louis awarded Walensky a B.A. in biochemistry and molecular biology in 1991. She graduated with an M.D. from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 1995.
She received internal medicine training at Johns Hopkins Hospital from 1995 to 1998. The Massachusetts General Hospital/Brigham and Women’s Hospital Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program accepted Walensky as a fellow.
The Harvard School of Public Health conferred her MPH in clinical effectiveness in 2001.
Walensky is wed to physician-scientist Loren D. Walensky. Three of their sons exist. They belong to Newton, Massachusetts’ Temple Emanuel, and are Jews.
