He attended Rochester’s McQuaid Jesuit High School, where he played football and basketball.

In his freshman year at Pitts, Kancey played 11 games and recorded six tackles. He redshirted and appeared alone in the Quick Lane Bowl victory over Eastern Michigan.

He improved in his sophomore year, playing 13 games and recording 19 tackles, including 2.5 for loss.

In his junior year, Kancey started in all 10 games and recorded 22 tackles, including six tackles for loss and three sacks. His performance earned him All-ACC honorable mention honours.

In 2020, he played in all 11 games and was named a Freshman All-American by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), Rivals, and The Athletic.

Regarding match statistics, he totaled 27 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks.

In 2021, he started all 14 games at defensive tackle, was named first-team All-ACC, and was a third-team Associated Press All-American.

He led Pitt in tackles for loss (13) and ranked second in sacks (seven), with 35 total tackles and a forced fumble on the year. 

The player declared for the 2022 NFL Draft after his junior year and was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Dallas Cowboys.

He impressed coaches during the preseason and made the team’s final roster for the 2022 NFL season. 

Kancey recorded his first career sack against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3. He is majoring in the administration of justice.
