Fortunately, Ian has not been named in the Ian Wright Scandal. As a result, he was not detained at the time this piece was written. However, the former footballer was arrested when he was only 19 years old. Wright was imprisoned for two weeks in Chelmsford Prison for failing to pay charges for driving without a license or insurance following a period of hardship in which his wife was pregnant with their first child.
He recalls crying and pledging to God that he would do everything he could to succeed as a footballer after being imprisoned. Ian has since moved on from this experience and is now enjoying retirement while still participating in football-related activities such as punditry roles for television networks such as Sky Sports.
