Living in a small two-bedroom apartment with his parents, two elder brothers (Strahinja and Nemanja), and grandmother, Nikola was raised.
Jokic’s early love of basketball was inspired by his elder brothers, who played the sport in Serbia and were 10 years older than him.
One of his brothers, Nemanja, later played basketball for the Scranton/Wiles-Barre Streamers in the Premier Basketball League as well as for Detroit Mercy and C.W. Post in college.
With former NBA player Darko Milicic, both brothers are buddies. In addition to basketball, he grew to enjoy horse racing throughout his youth and even participated as an amateur.
He still has a burning interest in horse racing now.
The athlete decided to compete in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup, this time representing Serbia.
Serbia was seen to have the best chance of winning the championship before the competition. The squad was eliminated, nevertheless, in a shock upset against Argentina in the quarterfinals.
Despite this setback, Serbia finished the tournament in fifth position after noteworthy wins against the Czech Republic and the United States.
