The vivacious 5-year-old Hazel Gonzalez drowned in Tinley Park’s White Water Canyon Water Park. The youngster died enjoying her pre-kindergarten graduation. Hazel was found lifeless in the pool after an unknown time underwater despite adult monitoring.
Accidental drowning is the largest cause of death, especially among youngsters. The airway gets clogged, stopping breathing. Lifeguards and paramedics tried to resuscitate Hazel immediately but failed. The drowning of the youngster is a painful reminder of the fragility of life and the need to improve water safety knowledge to prevent such accidents.
