When it became known that Gold had an eating disorder and anxiety in 2017, she withdrew from competitive events and went to therapy. She didn’t acknowledge having suicidal thoughts right away. The 28-year-old published her book, Outofshapeworthlessloser, on Tuesday.
Gracie writes in her autobiography that she was sexually assaulted at an after-party at an event when she was 21 years old by a fellow skater. Five years after the incident, Gracie reported it to the US Center for SafeSport. According to Gold, she is unsure of how the lawsuit has been handled. Gracie acknowledges that she has been a critical perfectionist her entire life.
Gracie explains in her biography how her eating disorder deteriorated during the 2014 Olympics. After having difficulty competing in the 2016 World Championships, Gracie experienced abuse and was thinking about taking her own life by the time of her next competitive season. She had also put on fifty pounds, and she left for inpatient treatment in Arizona after enrolling in the program.
It has been determined that Gracie suffers from anxiety, depression, and minor OCD. Gracie stated in a recent interview that while she still enjoys skating, she believes that some skaters and the skating community as a whole need to change and advance.
