First of all, Fernando José Torres Sanz was born on March 20, 1984, in the village of Fuenlabrada, which is outside of Madrid, the capital of Spain. His parents, Flori Sanz Torres and José Torres, welcomed him as the youngest and last child of the family.
The primary team Torres’ hometown of Fuenlabrada supports is Real Madrid. Yet he went for Athletico. At age five, the forward made his first football kick. He jumped right on board with the Parque 84 neighborhood crew.
You might be surprised to learn that Torres started his career as a goaltender rather than a striker. His older brother initially filled the position. Up to the age of seven, Torres exclusively played that position before switching to a striker.
José Torres, Fernando Torres’ father, also paid for private lessons for the young Fernando. His mother, Flori Sanz, always accompanied him to training sessions. Although he wasn’t a real football fan, his grandfather took delight in backing Atlético Madrid. His passion for Athletico has been passed down to Torres.
