Ed Harris was born in Englewood, New Jersey, on November 28, 1950, to parents Margaret and Robert L. Bob. His father was employed at the bookstore of the Art Institute of Chicago, while his mother was a travel agent.
He was raised alongside his two brothers, Robert and Spencer Harris, in New York. Harris matriculated at Columbia University after his 1969 Tenafly High School graduation.
However, his family relocated to New Mexico after two years, and he enrolled in the drama program at the University of Oklahoma to pursue his passion for acting.
