Donovan Mitchell is from a successful and varied family. Given that both of his parents are black, he is African-American.
His father, Donovan Sr., is the director of player relations for the New York Mets and was formerly a minor-league baseball player.
Nicole Mitchell, his mother, is an elementary school teacher and a former dancer. Jordan and Laila, Mitchell’s two younger sisters, are also gifted athletes.
Laila plays soccer at Sacred Heart University, while Jordan plays basketball at UConn. Mitchell spends a lot of time with his family in the off-season since they are quite close.
In remembrance of his father, who also played baseball with the same number, he wears 45 on his uniform.
Mitchell’s roots may be found in his African-American ancestors who were brought to America as slaves.
He has said that he wants to utilize his platform to encourage other people of color to pursue their aspirations and that he is proud of his ancestry.
In addition, he said that he hopes to go to Africa at some point and that he is curious to find out more about his ancestry.
