Derek McAllister was born in New York City, New York on November 6, 1994, to Derek McAllister, Sr., and Mesha Wilson. His father, PJ, was a well-known musician in New York. McAllister has a younger brother, Christian, who is a hip-hop artist who goes by the stage name Lil Knock.
Derek McAllister, Sr. was sentenced to ten years in prison while the family was in New York. Wilson decided during this time that she would not raise her children in such an environment and relocated the entire family to Columbia, South Carolina. McAllister attended Kelly Mill Middle School, Ridge View High School, and the new Westwood High School while there.
While he had been interested in pursuing music as a vocation for some time, he began making his own music using his personal computer when he was 13 years old. His father was released from prison in 2010, and he joined the family in Columbia. Recognizing his son’s passion for hip-hop, McAllister, Sr. began to assist him in honing his skills.
