In college, Manning played for the Jayhawks college basketball team. Danny helped guide the team towards the 1988 NCAA title as a senior. Moreover, he graduated as the all-time leading rebounder and scorer from college.
Similarly, Manning is the all-time leading scorer in the history of the Big Eight Conference with 2,951 career points. He also received awards such as the John R. Wooden Trophy, the Naismith College Player of the Year, and the Eastman Award as the college player of the year.

In addition, he also received the Most Outstanding Player award in the tournament for his performance. He was also part of the Big Eight Decade Player and 2x All-American, as well.
As the first overall pick, the Los Angeles Clippers selected Manning during the 1988 NBA draft. Danny only played 26 games during the season as a rookie. Unfortunately, he had to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery after he had broken his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL).
Danny returned during the 1989–1990 season, however. In addition, 1992–1993 was his most productive NBA season. His average was 22.8 points a game in that particular season. The NBA called him up for the All-Star Game because of his outstanding numbers.
