Jon Gruden, Cindy Gruden’s husband, was born on August 17, 1963, in the Ohio town of Sandusky, to Jim and Kathy Gruden. We can assume that Jon learned his teaching skills from his father, who worked in the NFL for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a scout, running backs coach, and director of player personnel.
Most people wouldn’t be surprised if Jon inherited his father’s passion for American football. He went to Clay High School in South Bend, Indiana, Muskingum College, and then the University of Dayton, where he earned a communications degree in 1985.

Jon began his coaching career in 1985 as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Tennessee. Before taking over as head coach of the Oakland Raiders in 1998, he worked as an assistant coach in numerous positions. In 2001, he joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he won the Super Bowl in 2002.
Jon wanted to try new things, so he left his coaching job and started a new profession as a commentator for ESPN in 2009. In 2018, he made an unexpected return to coaching when he was named head coach of the Oakland Raiders.
Cindy Gruden and Jon Gruden have been married for almost three decades. Cindy was a student at the University of Tennessee at the time, and Jon was working as a graduate assistant coach with the university’s football team.
They fell in love right away, and Jon promised to marry his idol as soon as he landed a permanent teaching job. It didn’t take long for him to accomplish his dream of working as a coach; he proposed to Cindy right thereafter, and the two married in 1991. Deuce, Michael, and Jayson are the three handsome sons of the couple.
