Burney Lamar started go-kart racing at the age of five, winning three International Karting Federation Regional titles in addition to 25 track championships.
When Lamar was sixteen, he started racing stock cars at Stockton 99 Speedway, finishing eleventh in points. Along with competing on other short tracks across the West Coast, he won the Shell Oil Tri-Track title.
