We revisit a watershed moment for third-year forward Brian Skinner in this look back at the 2000-2001 NBA season. The Clippers’ power forward had a strong start to the season but was derailed by an ankle injury early on, resulting in an inconsistent role for the rest of the season.
Despite spending the majority of the season as the odd man out, Skinner’s reemergence became a hot issue. In a game against Detroit in February 2001, coach Alvin Gentry made a deliberate choice to employ Skinner. Skinner made his return to the floor after a six-game absence, and he had an instant impact, grabbing seven rebounds and scoring four points in 10 minutes.
Gentry praised Skinner’s rebounding talents and active performance, stressing his critical defensive efforts, particularly when Detroit attempted to attack inside. Despite the ups and downs of the season, Skinner’s persistence and positive effect on the court remained a recurring theme.
