As Christy was being treated for her wounds, James went missing and was found seven days later. According to CBS, he told authorities that he was attacked by Christy and ran into a neighbor's shed, then slipped into a coma until the following morning.

The following year, James was found guilty of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is currently incarcerated at the Graceville Correctional Facility in Jackson County, Fla.

According to the Florida Department of Corrections records, James is estimated to be released on Nov. 22, 2035.
