- Amy Acton was an associate professor of public health at Ohio State University and a grants manager at the Columbus Foundation. She was also the director of Project LOVE (Love Our kids, Vaccinate Early).
- In 2008, she volunteered for the Barack Obama campaign, creating an email group called “Bexley, Yes We Can!” on my.BarackObama.com and publicizing campaign events on Facebook.
Governor Mike DeWine of Ohio appointed her as the director of the Department of Health in February of this year. - DeWine was adamant that the appropriate person be in command in a crisis, so the search took a long time.
- A lawyer and a marketing director were the previous two employees, and DeWine stated that he wanted to “rethink how we approach this area.”
- On June 11, 2020, she resigned from her position and joined DeWine’s administration as a chief health advisor.
- Lance Himes was named interim director in her place.
