In Glasgow, Scotland, on October 26, 1980, Khalid Abdalla was born. Up to the time his family moved to Harrow when he was four, Abdalla spent most of his childhood there.
Both of his parents are physicians. When Sadat was in charge, Hossam, his father, was a well-known student activist and was imprisoned five times.
He spent time in Iraq after being exiled from Egypt and moved to Britain in 1979.
Famous fertility specialist Hossam, who operates the Lister Fertility Clinic, is a strong proponent of political reform in Egypt.
When Nasser’s dictatorship was in place, Hossam’s father, economist Ibrahim Saad El-Din, was twice imprisoned but also named head of the Institute of Socialist Studies.
Ibrahim, who was imprisoned under Sadat, is still regarded highly in Egyptian socialist politics despite having gone away in 2008.
