On June 2, 2012, at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, Shannon Dawson’s father Richard died away at the age of 79 from complications related to esophageal cancer. She then began using her nonprofit foundation, The Richard Dawson Esophageal Cancer Research Fund, to raise awareness of the illness all around the world.
Dawson plans fundraising events often in ortoer money for the charity. She usually goes to seminars on awareness as well.
